ECO4
The ECO4 Scheme offers grants for homes that may not have the resources to install energy efficiency measures on their own. These grants cover improvements like solar panels, heat pumps, and insulation. Funded by major energy providers, the Energy Company Obligation scheme aims to help low-income or disadvantaged households enhance their homes’ energy efficiency, reducing both energy costs and carbon emissions. Eligible households can receive free grants for upgrades like solar panels, advanced heating systems, and insulation.
ECO Plus
What is the ECO+ Scheme?
ECO+ (Energy Company Obligation) is a scheme to provide funding to help many more households become more energy efficient through grant-funded insulation measures and energy efficiency improvements. The £1 billion funding is intended to help bring down people’s energy bills and reduce carbon emissions, and runs until March 2026. ECO mandates that energy suppliers provide support to those in low-income households, but also extends it to energy-inefficient households in lower Council Tax bands, in an attempt to help some of the most vulnerable households bring down their energy costs.
LA Flex
What is the LA Flex Scheme?
Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (LA Flex) is a component of the government’s ECO scheme that allows councils and local authorities to expand eligibility criteria. Through LA Flex, more residents—beyond just those receiving benefits—can qualify for funding based on factors like income, health, age, or location, enabling councils to better support targeted communities. Previously, energy companies were limited to using 25% of their obligation through LA Flex, but this cap has now increased to 50%, making it possible for more people outside standard eligibility criteria to be considered for assistance.
